The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor / Jackson Center Ethics Fellow. The position will be housed in the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. It is renewable up to three years. Appointment is effective August 16, 2024. The Center seeks a scholar with an active research and teaching agenda (AOS) in ethics or political philosophy in the early stages of their career. AOC: desired further areas of research and/or teaching competence include the philosophy of race and gender, feminist philosophy, social justice, human rights, Africana/African-American studies, indigenous studies, environmental ethics, or other area of applied ethics. The candidate's research should be of interest to the wider campus community and The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values (http://www.coastal.edu/jacksoncenter). Candidates must exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching, maintain currency in the academic discipline, and have a PhD in hand at the time of the appointment.
Responsibilities include teaching six courses a year (including at least one upper division ethics course), contributing to the intellectual life of the community, and participating in the work of the Jackson Center. The Ethics Fellow is expected to be a mentor to the Jackson Scholar students, who are part of the leadership program of the Center.

The Associate Director for Academic Programs and Strategic Initiatives is a full-time administrative position that reports directly to the Ethics Center Director, Celia B. Fisher, Ph.D.; serves on the Center Executive Committee; and works with Center staff and associated Fordham faculty and students, to direct, administer and promote the continued growth of the Center’s interdisciplinary academic programs and events and to advance strategic initiatives and funding for research, student support, and other Center activities. The successful candidate will be a part of a collaborative environment with opportunities for building connections throughout the university and for support of scholarly pursuits linked to the Center's mission.
RESPONSIBILITES
Direct the Master’s Program in Ethics & Society. Responsibilities include student recruitment and enrollment; student advising and practicum supervision; creation of new interdisciplinary faculty courses; and coordination of curriculum offerings across multiple science, humanities and professional programs within the university;
Direct the undergraduate Minor in Bioethics. Responsibilities include student recruitment, advising, coordination of curricula across multiple programs, developing and promoting interdisciplinary courses, student research and events and publicizing, coordinating and evaluating student submissions for the Chynn Ethics Prize.
Represent the Center at the Fordham College Council and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Council meetings.
Develop and oversee interdisciplinary conferences, seminars and other events, often in coordination with other centers or academic programs at Fordham.
Work with the Center Director, Executive Committee and staff on strategic initiatives to increase funding for Center activities and to enhance national and international visibility
Contribute to writing annual reports and funding proposals
Supervise Center graduate students and monitor and update academic program websites
Teach one graduate or undergraduate course each semester
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A doctoral degree or equivalent in the humanities, public health or social and biological sciences in areas of scholarship related to ethics/bioethics and the Center’s commitment to addressing racism and educating for justice.
Minimum two years’ experience with undergraduate or graduate teaching and student supervision
Minimum two years’ experience with program administration or project administration.
A collaborative style, demonstrated social facilitation skills, excellent writing skills and the ability to build strong relationships and interdisciplinary collaborations with Fordham administration, department chairs, program directors, and faculty across multiple Fordham schools and campuses.
Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to Fordham University’s commitment to research and education that assist in the alleviation of poverty, the promotion of justice, the protection of human rights and respect for the environment.

Duties : Contribute to research, service, teaching and teaching-related activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointees are also expected to be active researchers and contribute to the broader intellectual project of the Department in terms of publications, academic events and research grants.
Requirements : A PhD in Political Philosophy/Ethics or related disciplines with competence in undertaking philosophical and ethical research and teaching. Candidates are expected to have an active research agenda that leads to external funding, provide evidence of teaching ability (including student evaluations) and proven ability to produce high quality publications. Prof. E. J. Green, Miller Associate Professor of Philosophy with secondary appointment in Psychological and Brain Sciences, together with the Foundations of Mind Group at Johns Hopkins University, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Foundations of Mind for a target start date of Sept 1, 2024.
The Foundations of Mind Group is a vibrant interdisciplinary group, connecting faculty, post-docs, and graduate students across the university who are interested in theoretical questions about the mind-brain. Its core faculty are appointed in the Departments of Philosophy, Psychological and Brain Sciences, Cognitive Science (including Linguistics), as well as the Zanvyl Krieger Mind-Brain Institute. The group collaborates, co-teaches, co-advises, organizes reading groups, and sponsors talks and other events. Collaborations among group members have recently appeared in journals such as Mind & Language, The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Science, Psychological Review, Linguistics and Philosophy,and Analysis. Recent Foundations of Mind postdocs have published in Philosophy of Science, The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, and Mind & Language,among other venues. The research should combine perspectives from more than one of the group’s constituent disciplines, and should yield publications that embody this interdisciplinary perspective.
The ideal candidate will also help to organize workshops on topics at the intersection of philosophy and the mind-brain sciences. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with Prof. Green and other members of the group. Although teaching is not required, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach (or co-teach) one course during each year of the Fellowship.
