Teaching Felllow in Ethics (EXPIRED)

The School of Philosophy at University College Dublin seeks to appoint a temporary teaching fellow in Ethics. The duration of the appointment estimated to be 36 months, commencing September 1, 2019. The appointee will be expected to deliver lectures in ethics, theoretical and applied, and to contribute to the teaching of the School’s multi-disciplinary Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) undergraduate programme. 

Fixed salary: €35,000 per annum

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the successful candidate will include but not necessarily be limited to the following:
• Delivering lectures
• Grading coursework
• Participating in the scholarly activities of the School
• Supervising Masters students as well as undergraduate theses
• Contribute to the academic life of the School through active engagement with UCD Centre for Ethics in Public Life.
• Contribute to the wider educational community through a professional development (CPD) course in ethics.
• Undertake such other appropriate duties as directed by the Head of School in line with the contract of employment.

Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory
• PhD in Philosophy in an area appropriate to the specified teaching requirements.
• A commitment to high quality teaching and supervision at graduate and undergraduate levels
• Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills

Desirable
• Strong teaching competence in applied and/or professional ethics
