Job description

Applications are invited at the Department for the Study of Culture in the Faculty of Humanities, University of Southern Denmark in Odense for two postdoc positions in social epistemology or philosophy of science to take effect from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2021.

The Department for the Study of Culture carries out research, teaching and communication in Cultural studies, Education, Literature, Media Studies and Philosophy. Further information about the department can be found on http://www.sdu.dk/ikv.

Two two-year post docs will be attached to the project ‘Scientific Testimony in a Diverse Society’ and will be members of the research group Cognition, Communication and Science. 

Job description

Responsibilities consist primarily in research and, secondarily, in organization of workshops, conferences and other project activities as well as contributions to department life. Research themes of the project concern questions about the role of experts in science, public institutions and public discourse as well as questions about cognitive diversity and disagreement. Funds for conference travels are included.

Required qualifications

The successful applicant must hold (by time of application) a PhD in Philosophy or a closely adjacent field such as social or cognitive psychology. The applicant should be able to demonstrate research experience in philosophy of science or social epistemology.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2015

Employment as Postdoc is temporary (max. 4 years). Employment stops automatically by the end of the period. An upgrade of pedagogical qualifications is not part of the position. To qualify for the position you must have completed a PhD-degree by the application deadline.

Only publications in English will be considered.

Files must be pdf-format, maximum 10 MB per file. Each field handles only one file, so files must be combined into one pdf. We do not accept zip-files or image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked, without password protection and allow binding.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The committee may request additional information. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Interviews, shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.

The Faculty of Humanities may reject applications without further notice if they do not meet the specified requirements. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
