Job description

The LATAM Free Will, Agency, and Responsibility project calls for applications for two postdoctoral positions in the Philosophy Department at Universidad de los Andes in Bogota. These are 2-year positions (one-year, renewable for another after satisfactory evaluation) to start any time after July 1, 2019 but no later than September 1, 2019. Salary is competitive and includes benefits in accordance with Colombian law. Postdocs will work under the supervision of Santiago Amaya and Manuel Vargas. The project is funded by the John Templeton Foundation.

Every year, each postdoc will teach one seminar or advanced course, attend a three-week mid-year seminar on themes of the project, and receive US$4,000 to attend international conferences. During their fellowship, they will be eligible to receive an additional US$6,000 stipend to visit the Department of Philosophy at the University of California, San Diego for a two-month period and will receive extra funding to co-organize a workshop. Throughout their fellowship, they will be expected to work towards creating bridges between the Latin- and Anglo-American philosophical communities.

Applicants should have received their PhD in philosophy before June 2019 and not prior to June 2016. Due to the goals of the project, priority will be placed on candidates with a track record of successful work in Latin America or with the Latin American philosophical community, and with a research project in the Analytic tradition.

Review of applications will begin on March 11, 2019 and will continue until the positions are filled. Applications should include a letter of intent describing how the applicant’s work fits the goals of the project, a CV, a 2-year research plan, a writing sample (published or unpublished), and the names of two letter-writers (who will be contacted if the applicant becomes a finalist).
