Two-Year Post-Doc in Ethics and AI (EXPIRED)

The Department of Philosophy at York University, in collaboration with the Lassonde School of Engineering and Schulich School of Business, seeks to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a term of two years, starting July 1, 2019. Responsibilities include both teaching and research. The Fellow will conduct research on the ethics and social impact of AI, including such topics as algorithmic bias, big data privacy, labour automation, and the moral status of artificial agents. The Fellow’s research will be supervised by Professor Regina Rini, Canada Research Chair in Philosophy of Moral and Social Cognition, and will benefit from opportunities to engage with other members of York’s highly regarded philosophy department. The Fellow will teach, twice each year, a Masters-level seminar on AI Ethics, directed at philosophy students, computer science students at the Lassonde School of Engineering, and data analytics students in the Schulich School of Business.

The successful applicant will hold (by time of appointment) a PhD in Philosophy or a closely adjacent field and will have experience teaching applied ethics, ideally on AI or digital topics.
