Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Wittenberg University invites applications for an opening at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning Fall of 2019. Six courses per year, undergraduate. Appointment is renewable on approval up to three years. Funding for research and development of teaching is available. AOS: Social and Political Philosophy with research and teaching connected to at least one of the following areas: Disability Studies, Environmental Justice, Immigration Rights, Indigenous Studies, Latinx Studies, Sexuality Studies. AOC: Philosophy of Law and the successful candidate must be able contribute to our Justice, Law and Public Policy Program and to one of the two courses in our History of Philosophy sequence--Ancient and Medieval Philosophy or Modern Philosophy. The department emphasizes a commitment to liberal arts teaching and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research. The department also values original, innovative research, interaction with students inside and outside of the classroom, engagement with the local community, and service to the university. We view our work as a department as one that is deeply committed to philosophy as a public practice. Requirements: A Ph.D. in a related field is required (ABD doctoral candidates will be considered with completion of degree by August 2019).
