Job description

We are currently appointing faculty to teach undergraduate courses in the humanities beginning in the 2019-20 academic year. We welcome applications from people at all career stages (e.g., Assistant, Associate and full Professor levels). Our courses are broad, and we are especially interested in applicants with degrees in philosophy.

The Minerva Schools at KGI (the Keck Graduate Institute) prepare students to become innovators and global leaders in a wide variety of disciplines. Our aim is to reinvent higher education at every level, from how we define the curriculum to how we teach. All Minerva classes are seminars, not lecture courses, and use active learning to help students learn to think critically and creatively as well as to communicate and interact effectively with others. Students live together in residence halls, traveling to 7 different cities over their four undergraduate years of studyWe teach using the Minerva Active Learning Forum, a web-based platform that supports real-time, synchronous seminars (ranging from 15-19 students) with high levels of student-faculty interaction. The majority of our students are undergraduates pursuing four-year degrees.

You are a good fit for a Minerva faculty position if you are eager to join one of the most innovative institutions in higher education today. As a student-centric program, we focus on learning outcomes, small interactive class sessions, and deep engagement between faculty and students, with feedback given in both directions. Because all classes are taught on our technology platform, you have complete flexibility to teach at Minerva via computer from any geographic location where there are good internet connections. Students live and study in many global cities, so teaching days and hours often fall outside the range of a typical business day.

Please see our website for more information about Minerva’s course offerings in Arts and Humanities.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in relevant discipline (e.g., philosophy. ABD applicants accepted if degree will be complete by August 1, 2019).
  • documented teaching experience
  • comfort with new technology
  • passion for undergraduate teaching
  • willing to embrace innovative pedagogical approaches based on the science of learning

Candidates should submit the following:

  • A cover letter explaining:

    • Why you believe you would be a good fit to teach one or more specific Minerva courses.

    • Your interest in a full or part-time appointment.

    • The names of, and contact information for, three people who will write a letter of recommendation; we are particularly interested in people who can attest to the quality of your teaching, your general quality of mind, and your openness to new pedagogical approaches.

  • A current curriculum vitae.

Positions will remain open until filled. For full consideration, please submit all materials by January 10, 2019.
