The Department of Philosophy at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position to begin July 1st, 2019. Area of specialization: social philosophy. Area of competence: open. Broad philosophical interests are assets, and areas of specialization or competence that are consistent with the University of Victoria’s Indigenous or International Plan are valued. Duties will include research, undergraduate and graduate instruction and administrative service. A successful applicant will have the potential to be a superior researcher and an excellent teacher. Applicants should hold a PhD in Philosophy by time of appointment. Ideal candidates will have begun publishing and have a well-articulated research and publication plan. The Department seeks a candidate who can offer undergraduate and graduate courses in social philosophy broadly construed. Candidates should also be able to offer an introduction to philosophy that covers a broad range of topics and diverse figures in the history of philosophy. Candidates should supply evidence of their approach to pedagogy and their preparedness to teach excellent courses. The successful candidate should be able to supervise MA and PhD students in social philosophy and be able assist the supervision of students in other areas of philosophy.
