Job description

UNIVERSITY  OF  DAYTON,  DAYTON,  OH.  The  Department  of  Philosophy  invites applications for an assistant professor position, tenure track, beginning August 16, 2019.

 Description

We are seeking an assistant professor specializing in philosophy of mind or philosophy of cognitive science. The typical teaching load is six undergraduate courses per academic  year (three per semester), although pre-tenure course releases are available. The successful applicant may have the opportunity to teach summer courses to supplement salary, if desired.

 We are a large, collegial philosophy department, currently numbering nineteen tenure-line faculty and eight lecturers, and offering strong major and minor programs. We are racially, religiously, and ethnically diverse, and we embrace a pluralistic outlook, recognizing the value of a variety of philosophical traditions both western and non-western, and including feminist philosophy.

 The University of Dayton, with a College of Arts and Sciences and professional schools of Business Administration, Education and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Law has a full- time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 undergraduate students. All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies.

Required qualifications

We require a PhD in Philosophy at the time of application, with an AOS in philosophy of mind or philosophy of cognitive science (AOC is open).  We also require experience teaching philosophy at the college or university level as the instructor of record, the potential for scholarly excellence in philosophy of mind or philosophy of cognitive science and excellent written communication skills.
