Associate Professor of Philosophy

The position is at the Inland School of Business and Social Sciences, The Centre for Philosophy, Lillehammer Campus.

The Centre for Philosophy currently has seven full-time appointments. The Centre offers courses on all academic levels, including Examen philosophicum and Examen facultatum; BA courses in Ethics and Philosophy of Culture; MA and PhD level courses in Philosophy og science and Ethics.

There are up to 2 permanent, full-time vacancies. Appointment as soon as possible.

The position

As Associate Professor of Philosophy you will be expected to conduct research in philosophy, to participate in teaching at all levels and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Centre. The position is split between research, teaching and administrative duties. The normal load is currently at 55% teaching, 40% research and 5% administration.

Qualifications and personal skills

  • PhD or equivalent within the field of Philosophy
  • AOS: open
  • AOC: in one or more of the following areas: Practical philosophy, Philosophy of mind, Philosophy of science, History of philosophy
  • International peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in establishing international research networks
  • Excellent teaching abilities at all academic levels, including Examen philosophicum and Examen facultatum. Candidates who are not able to document formal teaching qualifications must qualify by attending our Teaching and learning in higher education program, to be further agreed with HINN.
  • Overall good affinity with relevant ICT systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in a Scandinavian language (Norwegain, Danish or Swedish) and English

We are seeking colleagues that can contribute to the long term development of teaching and research at the centre. Ability for independent work as well as cooperation is important. The successful candidate will be skilled and motivated for research- and administrative leadership. We will holistically assess the different qualifications of each applicant.

Applications will be long-listed by a sorting commitee. Long-listed applications will be evaluated by an expert commitee, comprised of one internal and two external members.

    - Documentation of formal teaching qualifications
    - Documentation of teaching experience, for example an overview of teaching/counseling experience, documentation of work with programme quality development, development of programme plans, etc.
    - Reflection about own teaching philosophy, teaching practice and key points in own development

As a general rule an interview will be used in the appointment process, and it may be appropriate to require trial lectures.
