Job description

Responsibilities

As Director of Interdisciplinary Studies , you will work with the IDS unit to increase the number of adult students in the online degree program, to develop greater collaborations and partnerships for the IDS internship program, and to contribute to a higher profile of the IDS program within the UNO community and in the region.  You will also be responsible for teaching online and onsite sections of the IDS Capstone Research Course, IDS 4091

Currently, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advance Interdisciplinary Studies’ mission, vision, and strategic plan to further enhance the student experience.
  • Implement and assess curriculum to develop, grow and strengthen current IDS Coursework.
  • Strengthen partnerships with faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues.
  • Manage the budget and staff to support the work of the IDS Associate Director.
  • Represent IDS on appropriate university-wide committees related to curriculum and academic policies.
  • Teach IDS 4091-Capstone Seminar on campus and online.
  • Continue to develop the introductory course, IDS 3001 with the IDS Associate Director.
  • Continue to develop the IDS Institutional Effectiveness plan with the ID Associate Director.
  • Develop internship partners for student experiential learning;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • It is expected that the Director will lead campus discussions on the future of IDS and implement any identified changes in structure, governance, or other components

Required Qualifications

  • Earned advanced degree (a doctorate or terminal degree, or international equivalency, for those who seek a tenured academic position) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary teaching expertise (and a record of scholarly accomplishments commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor in a UNO department related to the candidate’s expertise.)
  • Successful administrative or leadership experience.
  • Experience in recruiting students.
  • Evidence of collegiality, collaboration, and transparency in decision-making.
  • Proven ability and commitment to work collaboratively with people across a diverse range of disciplines and groups.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and leading new initiatives to advance the mission of an interdisciplinary academic department or school.
  • Evidence of substantial and substantive administrative experience including budget management, supervising professional staff, developing and implementing strategic plans, and promoting development goals.
