Job Description The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin Fall 2019. The normal teaching load is 5 courses per year. Duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the university. Other duties include some core curriculum teaching and M.A. thesis supervision. Required Qualifications Ph.D. must be in hand by July 1, 2019. Area of specialization: political philosophy, philosophy of law, or ethics, with ability to teach political philosophy and philosophy of law required. The successful candidate must have a strong record of research in addition to experience and promise as an excellent teacher. Area of competence: history of philosophy. Preferred Qualifications Other things being equal, some preference will be given to candidates with interests in diversity areas such as feminism, Latin American philosophy, philosophy of race, or non-Western philosophy. Department Information The Department of Philosophy is housed in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno. The College of Liberal Arts offers more than 20 majors and minors, and is the largest college at the university (http://www.unr.edu/liberalarts). The Department of Philosophy administers B.A. and M.A. degree programs, with two tracks at the undergraduate level, one in general philosophy, and the other in ethics, law, and politics. The department has about 100 majors, and an equal number of minors. Additional information about the department can be found at: https://www.unr.edu/philosophy. In recent years, the department has experienced growth in the number of faculty, research productivity, and external funding awards. The department expects to play a noteworthy role in the university’s long-term expansion plans and its movement toward R1 research status through its course offerings and interdisciplinary collaboration. |
