at the Department of Philosophy

The advertised position is situated in the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy and Education. The Department is large (by international comparison) and its members have a considerable variety of areas of competence. This motivates both the duty to offer a teaching programme that spans the full breadth of the discipline, and the intention to satisfy high standards of research performance. The Department attaches great value to the core areas of philosophy, but it also has the aim to contribute, on their basis, to the clarification and solution of current problems. The intention to acknowledge new philosophical developments and tasks is reflected in the number of co-operations and research fields of the department. 

Degree of Employment: 30 hours/week
Occupation group in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) On top of this relevant chargeable work experience determines the assessment to a particular salary grade.

Areas of work: 

The successful candidate will actively collaborate in research, teaching and administration at the Department of Philosophy in the field of Political Philosophy and Social Philosophy. The professorship for Political Philosophy and Social Philosophy of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hans Bernhard Schmid covers frontier-research in Social Ontology, Theory of Social Action, History of Social Theory, and Theory of Collective (esp. Political) Identities. The main goal of this position will be to produce a dissertation ready for publishing within the field respectively foci of research mentioned above.

Profile:

  • Master degree in Philosophy (with distinction), or an equivalent degree
  • profound knowledge and research interests in the area of specialization of the chair
  • organizational skills, team-spirit, and facility with independent work
  • a firm commitment to acquire a sufficient command of the German language to be able to teach courses and participate in administrative bodies within three years. 

Favorable Additional Assets:

  • publications and talks relevant to the proposed project
  • experience in the organization of research projects (workshops, series of lectures, publication projects, etc.).
