Job description

The position is funded by the European Research Council and is affiliated with the research project Plurals, Predicates, and Paradox: Towards a Type-Free Account, which is headed by Professor Øystein Linnebo and will be based at the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas, University of Oslo as of August or September 2012.


The research project is concerned with philosophical logic and the philosophy of mathematics, particularly with higher-order logic, the logical paradoxes, modality and the foundation of set theory. More information is available here.


The applicant is expected to present a research project linked to the main project. The successful applicant will be part of a team which includes one other postdoc and two PhD students. The candidate will be expected to have his/her residence and work place in Oslo and contribute to development of the academic environment. The main purpose of the position of postdoctoral fellow is qualification for work in more senior academic positions..


The post is available for a period of two years starting in 2012, subject to funding. 


Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Philosohy or another relevant background.
  • The applicant's project must be closely linked to the main project.
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position.

The doctoral thesis must be submitted for assessment by the application deadline.


In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on:

  • The quality of the project description, the candidate´s international experience and network, and on the assumed academic and personal ability on the part of the candidate to complete the project within the given time frame.
  • Co-operation skills will receive special attention in the selection process.

  • Curriculum vitae, listing publications and grades obtained in the applicant's university studies
  • A writing sample
  • Two lettes of recommendation
  • 3 - 5 page project description, including a progress plan. Applicants are expected to be able to execute the plan during the appontment period.

Diplomas, certificates and copies of the doctoral thesis and any other academic work may be requested later.
