MA/PhD Scholarship in Reference, Self-reference and Empirical Data (EXPIRED)

We offer one four-year MA/PhD scholarship associated with the research project: 

Reference, Self-reference and Empirical Data (FFI2011-25626)

funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.

In this project we develop two research lines. The first one focuses on the semantics of general terms, both kind terms and terms for artifacts. The second one copes with the characterization of the type of circularities that produce semantic paradoxes. In both research lines, a central concern will be the discussion of the role played by intuitions and experimental data in philosophical theorizing. We welcome applications by candidates interested in the research lines of the project. For more information, please check: http://www.ub.edu/grc_logos/project_card.php?idProj=41

Applicants should hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Philosophy by the starting time of the grant (around September 2012). Fluency in English is required. The application process is completed in two stages: 

(1) The applicant should send an email including the following items to Jose Martinez before February 29th:

1. A satement of purpose.
2. A curriculum vitae, including the grades obtained in the academic degree of the applicant. 
3. A research project on topics related to the project (maximum 1000 words).
4. A sample of work written by the applicant (maximum 8000 words).
5. One or two letters of reference addressing the applicant's qualifications for doctoral research. These can also be sent by the referees directly to the e-mail address above. 

(2) The official application has to be made directly by the applicant to the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. The deadline will be announced when the official call opens (sometime during February 2012).
