Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for Visiting Fellows for the spring and fall semesters of 2017.  As a complement to the Visiting Fellows program run by its Center for Values and Social Policy, the Department’s Visiting Fellows program is aimed at faculty working primarily in any area of philosophy OTHER THAN the values area, where the values area is understood to include moral, social, political and legal philosophy.  The Visiting Fellows program is intended for faculty members who will be on paid leave from their home institution for the spring or fall semesters of 2017, or who are retired, and who would like to spend between two and eight weeks during that time in residence at the Department (shorter or longer stays may also be negotiated).  Visiting Fellows will spend most of their time in the Department conducting research but will also be expected to give a talk or two (depending on the length of their stay) and to do a few guest presentations in courses being offered by the Department.  The Department can offer Visiting Fellows office space, library privileges, a stipend of $1,000 - $2,500 depending on length of visit, and assistance with travel costs, along with collegial engagement with a large and vibrant community of faculty and graduate students with interests in a wide range of philosophical issues.

Applicants must work primarily in areas outside of the values area and must have had their highest degree for at least three years.  Applicants who are interested and who meet these criteria should submit a cover letter, CV (including names of at least two references), description of their research project (1500 words or fewer) and a recent writing sample to [email protected] by June 1, 2016.  Questions should also be directed to [email protected].
