Research and development associate (EXPIRED)

The Greenville Neuromodulation Center (GNC) seeks a Ph.D. in Philosophy to help establish and develop a scholarly and instructive program in Applied Epistemology (Critical Thinking) initially targeting neuroscience and related technology.  Recent concerns about the lack of scientific reproducibility and continued difficulties translating science into technology that benefits patients may reflect failure to grasp the fundamental structure of knowledge in these fields and presumptions and assumptions that are counterproductive.  The program in Applied Epistemology seeks to address these issues and leverage epistemic knowledge to better scientific and technological productivity as well as improve teaching of college and graduate students in these areas.  Candidates with strong backgrounds in Epistemology and Philosophy are encouraged to apply.  Collaboration with area liberal arts undergraduate colleges will be encouraged.  Experience in science and technology is helpful though not necessary.  Salary will be between $42,000 and $45,000 per year depending on qualifications.  The position is immediately available.  Given the perhaps unusual nature of the position, those with interest are invited to call GNC and discuss (phone 724-588-1324) or to submit a letter of interest and resumé ([email protected]).
