Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time three-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy to begin September 1, 2016. Minimum Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in philosophy, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and in advising students. Preferred Qualifications: We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse cultural groups, and who will extend our philosophical expertise beyond the western tradition. We are particularly interested in candidates who could contribute to the college’s new African Studies minor. Major/Essential Functions: Teaching responsibilities will include American Philosophy and Environmental Philosophies. Other courses are negotiable, but will include an assortment of introductory and middle-level classes, as well as an occasional seminar in the successful candidate’s area of specialization. Gustavus faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will teach seven courses per year, one of which will be a January Interim course.
