Job description

Arrupe College, a new two-year undergraduate college of Loyola University Chicago, invites applications for a non-tenure-track, three-year appointment beginning July 1, 2016 as a Lecturer of Philosophy, with competence in History of Philosophy, Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, Feminism, Philosophy of Race. 

Over the course of 12 months, the selected individual will teach freshman and sophomore level courses in Philosophy at Arrupe College on the Water Tower Campus of Loyola University Chicago The individual selected for this position will demonstrate commitment to serving a diverse student body, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students. The successful candidate will exhibit experience in active-learning and enthusiasm for and commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising as well as a willingness to engage students beyond formal classroom experiences. Candidates with experience teaching in community colleges are encouraged to apply.  

A doctorate in the discipline is preferred, but a Master's degree is required, with at least five years of teaching experience with documented evidence of teaching and working with diverse student populations. The successful candidate must provide evidence of a commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching at the introductory levels and dedication to program development. The successful candidate will provide documented evidence of co-curricular mentorship experiences with students of this age group.
