Job description

Given that Chinese philosophy is one of the core fields covered by our graduate program, we are seeking a scholar with an established publication record and promise of distinction within our discipline.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active research program. Supervision of graduate students will be an important responsibility. The usual teaching load is two courses per semester. Required to provide instruction and conduct research on classical Chinese texts. Other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy (or its acknowledged equivalent from a foreign university). A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent. Evidence of proficiency in teaching. Continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities. A scholar who has reached full professional stride in teaching, research, and publishing. Fluency in Chinese.

Full Professor Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy (or its acknowledged equivalent from a foreign university). A minimum of four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of associate professor or equivalent. Evidence of excellence in teaching. Demonstrated continuing participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization, or in other appropriate job-related service activities. Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the department. Fluency in Chinese.

Associate Professor Desirable Qualifications: At least two additional years of teaching experience at the associate professor rank.

Full Professor Desirable Qualifications: A scholar of international reputation with a distinguished publication record.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
