Job description |
The Political Theory Project (PTP) at Brown University will be appointing up to four positions for its Visiting Scholars Program. Appointments are available at various levels including postdoctoral fellowships for newly minted Ph.D.s and visiting professorships for pre or post-tenure sabbatical applicants. Post-doctorates must have received their Ph.D. within the past three years. Salary for post-doctoral candidates is competitive. For visiting professors, Brown will match half of the current salaries with the remainder provided by their home institution. Ideal applicants’ research interests will include fields such as Political Theory, Political Philosophy, Constitutional History, The American Founding Period, Religion and Politics, Political Economy, Economics, Legal Theory, and the History of Economic Thought. All Visiting Scholar appointments are for one year. Scholars pursue their own research and participate in PTP working groups. Post-doctoral fellows teach up to two seminar courses a year (either individually or as part of a team). Visiting professors teach up to one seminar course per year. All applications should include CV, three confidential letters of reference, a one-page research plan, and a writing sample of no more than 20,0000 words. The mission of the PTP is to invigorate the study of institutions that make societies free, prosperous, and fair. Thus, the Project is particularly interested in candidates whose research is accessible and relevant across disciplinary boundaries especially the intersections of politics, philosophy, and economics. Research that investigates the moral and practical relationships between market economies and democratic governments is common amongst our community of scholars. |
