The Department of Philosophy at Assumption College invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning in fall 2016 at the rank of Assistant Professor. Assumption College is a residential, comprehensive, Catholic college, sponsored by the Augustinians of the Assumption, incorporating liberal education and pre-professional studies. The successful candidate must show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption College and be prepared to contribute actively to its educational mission, which presupposes the distinction between and complementarity of philosophy and theology in liberal education. The primary teaching responsibilities require aptitude for and interest in teaching a range of courses in the core curriculum, anchored by classical texts and diversified across the history of philosophy. We seek applicants well-versed in the history of philosophy, articulate about the nature and importance of liberal education and the Catholic intellectual tradition, and dedicated to deepening and broadening their learning through teaching and scholarship. Candidates must also be able to teach more advanced courses in the major and minor programs, which emphasize primary sources from the major historical periods. Candidates are expected to have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence as well as active and promising scholarly achievement. AOS and AOC open; 4/3 course load; undergraduate; usual non-teaching duties; competitive salary and benefits. Ph.D. expected prior to appointment.
