JOB ADVERTISEMENT (procedure revised & corrected) The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Western Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position in philosophy at the assistant professor level. AOS/AOC: epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, with a strong competence in formal logic required. Duties to begin August 2016. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate, introductory-level courses, including logic, as well as upper-level courses for majors and minors. Candidates should be able to enhance the central role of the department in the university’s general education program—which includes a prominent role for the department’s symbolic logic course. The successful candidate will be expected to develop advanced courses that build on areas of specialization or competency, and that complement current offerings. The successful candidate will engage in scholarly and research activities; participate in student advising; assist in the work of the department; serve on departmental, college, and university committees; and represent the department in service to the public. The normal teaching load per year is 19 semester hours or its equivalent. PhD is required by the start date; however, exceptional ABD applicants will be considered. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly potential and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
