Job description |
The University of Waterloo Department of Philosophy is accepting applications for a tenure track position in Women’s Studies and Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor. In 2016 the Department will become the administrative home of University of Waterloo’s Women’s Studies Program, and will launch a new PhD Program in Applied Philosophy. The Women’s Studies program is being redesigned to extend its focus beyond gender to issues of identity and a more general consideration of axes of oppression and approaches to countering them. The Applied Philosophy program is aimed at preparing students for both academic and non-academic careers, and involves training in the application of philosophy to practical problems and gaining philosophical insight from that process. The successful candidate will play an important role in the redesign and delivery of the undergraduate Women’s Studies program, and be involved in graduate teaching and supervision in the Philosophy programs, especially in Applied Philosophy. The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in a discipline relevant to the requirements of the position by the time of appointment, some teaching experience, and evidence of an actively developing research program. The position will commence on July 1, 2016, with a starting salary range of $77,500.00-$98,000.00. Duties include research, undergraduate and graduate teaching and graduate supervision, and service. Closing date for applications is Dec. 4, 2015. Applications should be submitted through the University’s Job Application System at https://artsonline.uwaterloo.ca/OFAS/PHIL. Applications should include: a cover letter; a research plan; a teaching dossier providing evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness; evidence of aptitude for and ideally some experience in administrative service; a curriculum vitae; a writing sample; and three confidential letters of reference. More information about the Department is available at https://uwaterloo.ca/philosophy/. More information about the Women’s Studies program is available at https://uwaterloo.ca/womens-studies/. Further enquiries can be directed to the Department Chair, David DeVidi, at 519-888-4567, ext. 35701 (e-mail: [email protected]). The University of Waterloo respects, appreciates and encourages diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. “Three reasons to apply: https://uwaterloo.ca/watport/why-waterloo.” |
