Job description |
Leibniz Universität Hannover and Universität Bielefeld jointly seek to fill Two Post-Doctoral Positions (100% TV-L 13) starting October 1st, 2015, within the research training group GRK 2073 “Integrating Ethics and Epistemology of Scientific Research”. AOS: Philosophy of Science, broadly construed to include also ethics and political philosophy of science. Initial appointment will be for 27 months. After 18 months, PostDocs will be asked to submit an interim report on the progress of their research projects. Given positive evaluation of the report, the board of the research training group can extend the position by another 27 months. The positions will be filled as 100% Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter positions on salary scale TV-L 13. One of the PostDocs will be located at Leibniz Universität Hannover and the other at Universität Bielefeld. Graduiertenkolleg (GRK) 2073 “Integrating Ethics and Epistemology of Scientific Research” is a research training group that is established as a joint project by Leibniz Universität Hannover and Universität Bielefeld. Its is funded by the DFG, the German national funding agency. Its research program aims at bridging the gap between theory and practice in philosophy of science in two ways: firstly, it examines new connections between theoretical philosophy of science (epistemology, metaphysics) and practical philosophy of science (ethics of science, political philosophy of science); secondly, it analyses relevant links between the cognitive dimension of the sciences (theories, hypotheses, discourses, models) and the material culture of the sciences (objects, equipment, experiments, practices). The working language of GRK 2073 is English. Applicants must be fluent in English and should hold a PhD in philosophy or HPS (or similar program) and should have completed their doctoral research on a topic from the philosophy of science, broadly construed. They need to specify a research project that fits the aims of the research program of GRK 2073 as described above. Please note the remarks on postdoctoral research projects in the Application Guide, section 2.1. The obligations of the PostDocs will be to conduct research on their own responsibility within projects that contribute to the research program of GRK 2073, to participate in peer learning groups and other training activities, to contribute their services to the governing board of GRK 2073 and to be available as counsels to PhD students. It is expected that PostDocs take residence at their respective place of employment. Applications should be sent by e-mail and must be received by August 7th, 2015.
