Job description

Case Western Reserve University seeks candidates for a full-time lecturer position in SAGES (the Seminar Approach to General Education and Scholarship). Designated as a Beamer-Schneider SAGES Fellow in Ethics, the lecturer will lead interdisciplinary, discussion-based, writing-intensive seminar-style courses that contribute to students' ethical formation and understanding of the history and practice of ethics. The lecturer will also lead a year-long, monthly professional development series on how to incorporate ethical learning into any SAGES class for SAGES faculty and instructors. Finally, the lecturer will assist the Beamer-Schneider Professorship in the coordination of its various Ethics Table activities ( http://philosophy.case.edu/beamer-schneider-professorship/ethics-table/).

SAGES ( http://www.case.edu/sages/) has created this lectureship in association with the Beamer-Schneider Professorship in Ethics (http://philosophy.case.edu/beamer-schneider-professorship/). Candidates should become familiar with both programs and explain in their cover letters how their research and teaching align with the missions of both. In addition, candidates should explain how they might construct the professional development series.

The position begins January 1,  2016.  Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. in any field by December 2015 and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching. The research specialization of the candidate should be in practical philosophy, with a good grasp of the history of ethics. The teaching load is 3/2 and may include courses for a department in the College of Arts and Sciences. Initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for up to one and a half additional years.

Application materials (a letter of interest and a CV) should be submitted electronically to [email protected] and [email protected]. To be assured of full consideration, candidates should submit their materials by May 26, 2015, but applications will be considered until the position is filled.
