2 Temporary Lectureships (fixed term)

Faculty of Philosophy, University of Cambridge

Salary:  £38,511 – £ 48,743 pa

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint two temporary lecturers in Philosophy from 1st October 2015.

One lectureship will last for one year, ending on 30th September 2016, covering for Prof Rae Langton who has a Mind Association Senior Research Fellowship. The other lectureship will last for three years, ending on 30th September 2018, covering for Prof Huw Price who has a Templeton World Charity Foundation research grant. 

These vacancies present an excellent opportunity particularly for early career scholars to gain teaching experience and research support within a prestigious philosophy department. The lectureships are based in central Cambridge.

Ability to teach at undergraduate level in one of the following areas is essential: ethics; epistemology and metaphysics. Competence in teaching the Early Modern history of these fields will be an advantage. There may also be opportunities to teach in other areas.

Applicants must already either have a PhD in a relevant subject area or expect to have submitted their PhD by the starting date (1st October 2015).

The lecturers will be required to give 40 lectures per academic year; to supervise MPhil and PhD students; to examine at both undergraduate and graduate level, and to contribute to the Faculty’s work in research. The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in College teaching for additional remuneration.

Applicants must upload a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications), a one-page statement of research interests and future research plans, a CHRIS 6 form (Parts I and III only), two samples of recent work (not exceeding 20,000 words in total), and a covering letter including details of the elements of the Faculty’s undergraduate syllabus which the applicant would be prepared to teach.
