Loyola Marymount University invites applications for the inaugural Director of the Academy of Catholic Thought and Imagination. The Academy for Catholic Thought and Imagination (ACTI) is a strategic priority at Loyola Marymount University. The director of the Academy will report directly to the Provost. The Academy is a community of scholars who work in dialogue with the Catholic intellectual tradition by developing, critically examining, communicating, or otherwise engaging the rich resources of Catholic thought and imagination, especially as it is informed by Jesuit thought tradition and Ignatian spirituality. The director will oversee all aspects of the Academy which serves as a hub for scholarship, interdisciplinary research, innovative pedagogy, and creative outreach across LMU’s campus, in the greater Los Angeles community, and beyond. The director of Academy of Catholic Thought and Imagination is expected to: demonstrate the ability to dialogue broadly about faith to engage the University in meaningful discussions about the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Catholic Imagination as well as the local, national, and global communities; develop their own program of scholarship or creative work which is in dialogue with Catholic Thought and Imagination; oversee budget and the management of all Academy activities including faculty fellows, student researchers, lectures, workshops, collaborative events and donor relations; work with existing centers to create, develop, and coordinate programming to further the identity and ideals of Loyola Marymount’s Jesuit and Catholic mission; host major annual interdisciplinary event that engages the campus and broader community and furthers conversations about Catholic Thought and Imagination; represent the Academy at internal and external events, including fundraising, and exhibit advanced communication skills with both academic and non-academic audiences; and support the leadership team by hiring for mission, providing timely and direct feedback, creating opportunities for personal and professional development/growth, providing incentives for high performance, and ensuring success. A successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent, have a strong record of publication in their field, and show a commitment to engaging and dialoguing with the Catholic Intellectual and Imagination Tradition. Candidate must be eligible for a tenured appointment in their department of discipline. Strong candidates for this position will foster an environment of collegiality and interdisciplinary inclusion and possess the ability to work well in a pluralistic environment and across university sectors.
