Job description |
Associate Professor (or Professorship) in Ancient Greek Philosophy FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY IN ASSOCIATION WITH ORIEL COLLEGE Salary in the range £44,620 - £59,914 p.a. plus allowances The Faculty of Philosophy, in association with Oriel College, wishes to appoint to an Associate Professorship or Professorship in Ancient Greek Philosophy, with effect from 1 September 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a joint appointment: the person appointed to the Associate Professorship or Professorship will also be appointed to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Fellowship in Ancient Greek Philosophy at Oriel College. The area of specialisation for this post is Ancient Greek Philosophy. The successful candidate must be able to provide research-led teaching and supervision in this area at all levels, undergraduate and graduate, and will be expected to engage in advanced research in ancient philosophy. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide small-group teaching for their college, in the form of tutorials, on a range of introductory (i.e. first-year) and advanced (i.e. second-year and beyond) Philosophy subjects for undergraduates. The successful candidate must demonstrate a research record of international standing appropriate to the stage of his or her career; the ability to deliver excellent teaching; the ability to supervise graduate students; and a willingness to undertake administration and pastoral responsibilities on behalf both of their college and of the University. Candidates should hold the degree of PhD as at 1 September 2015. Further particulars for the post, including details of how to apply, can be obtained from the Philosophy Faculty website (www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk) from the college website (http://www.oriel.ox.ac.uk/) or by writing to the Assistant Administrator of the Philosophy Faculty ([email protected]). Please note that a second, closely similar Associate Professorship (or Professorship), in Ancient Philosophy, is being advertised by the University at or around the same time, in association with Lady Margaret Hall. There will be a single shortlisting and interview process for both posts. Any application for the post associated with Oriel College will be regarded as an application for the post associated with Lady Margaret Hall and vice versa, unless the applicant explicitly requests otherwise. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford. The deadline for applications is 12.00 noon on 5 December 2014. Interviews are expected to be held in early February. Queries about the application process should be sent to the Assistant Administrator ([email protected]). |
