Job description

California State University, San Marcos, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy, tenure-track, beginning fall semester, 2015.  Area of Specialization:  Applied ethics.  Areas of competence:  Multiple fields within applied ethics (including business ethics; bioethics; environmental ethics, etc.); philosophy of law; feminist philosophy; critical thinking; history of modern philosophy.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. at time of hire; demonstrated success as a university level instructor; evidence of an ongoing research agenda.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Evidence of broad training and background as an instructor prepared to teach numerous courses in ethics and the history of philosophy; experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; experience with the use of digital technologies as a pedagogical resource.  Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service. DUTIES:  Undergraduate instruction, six courses per year (3/3); continuing scholarly development as represented by conference participation, research presentations, and research publication; service activities including but not limited to student advisement, curriculum development, college and university level committee participation, and service to the profession.
