Job Description:
The   successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses   across the curriculum including:   Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, Social and Political   Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Logic, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of   Human Nature, Philosophy in Literature, and Asian Philosophies.

The candidate will be expected to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester (a 5/5 teaching load) and keep five office hours per week. The teaching assignment may be multi-campus and may include day, evening, weekend, or online instruction.  Intersession and Summer teaching may also be available.
  
In addition to teaching responsibilities, other duties include maintaining   regular office hours, curriculum and program development, program review and planning, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, full participation  in department activities, and participation in college governance. Duties and   responsibilities may also include club advising and campus and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications: Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed   under a) through c):

a)      A Master’s degree in philosophy.

b)      A Master’s degree in humanities or religious studies AND a Bachelor’s degree in   philosophy.

c)      A combination of education and experience that is at   least the equivalent of the qualifications in either a) or b) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum   qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been   awarded at the time of submitting the application.

Only   coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions   recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as   satisfying the minimum qualifications. Candidates who have earned degrees   from foreign institutions are required to submit both official translations   and course-by-course evaluations of their transcripts that have been prepared   by a certified U.S. credential review service that is a member of the   National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (NACES). Preferred   Qualifications:

  1.   Ph.D. in Philosophy
  2.   Commitment to a student learning-centered college
  3.   Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Philosophy and its instructional program.
  4.   Experience teaching philosophy courses

  3.   Application  for Equivalency of Minimum Qualifications in cases where specific Minimal   Qualifications are not met.

Salary: Starting salary range: $55,015.41 – $86,069.03 annually. An annual   stipend of $1,345.18 shall be paid to any faculty member who has an earned   Doctorate from an accredited institution.

Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary   computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the   College. A maximum of step 8 at the appropriate salary grade will be awarded   to new faculty.
